Week of May 26th

World History:

This week, we will be preparing for the final exam.  It will be 90 questions in length, covering units Totalitarianism through Current Issues.  We will be doing the District Program Assessment in class this week.  Students will get 1/3 extra credit point for each correct answer.  The online version of the study guide can be found in the "Semester 2 Exam" page to the right.

The last tutoring session for the year will be Wednesday, May 27, period 7 and 1 hour after school.  Students are advised to return books either:

  1. after completing their exam
  2. when they feel that they have adequately completed their study guides.

 

Economics:

We will be working on the food court project this week.  Presentations of the project will be on Monday, June 1.  Any students not present will be marked down 50% of what their group gets. NO EXCEPTIONS.

The final exam for economics will be on Wednesday, June 3.  Students not present will have grade lowered by one full letter, per syllabus.  No exams will be given early or late.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

 

 

Week of May 18

 

World History:

This week, we will look at modern-day terrorism:  Who does it, and why? And, how does it impact our lives today?  You will hand in your final homework packet of the year on Friday.

Tutoring will be available Wednesday, period 7 and the hour after period 7. 

 

Economics:

We will be looking at issues of personal finance this week.  On Friday, you will be handing in work done in class.  On Friday, we will begin our Food Court Project (presented on June 1 - anybody not present will get 50% of group’s grade - NO EXCEPTIONS).  I will also be giving you a course outline and practice exams this week.

 

 

Week of May 11th

 

World History:

This week we still be studying African Decolonization.

Tutoring is available this Wednesday, both period 7 and after school.

Economics:

This week, we will be studying Chapter 16:  Our Global World.  Current Events Projects are due on Friday.

Week of May 4

World History:

This week, we will finish our study of China.  Homework packets will be due  on Friday.  You will have a quiz on Friday, too. 

Tutoring is available on Wednesday from 2:15 to 3:15

 

Economics:

We are working on Chapter 14: Economic Stability this week.  Remember that your Current Events Project is due next Friday (May 15).

Week of April 27th

 

World History:

This week, we will begin our unit of study on Communist China.  We will examine traditional Chinese belief systems, look at the end of the Qing Dynasty, the period of Civil War, and the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.  We will also study Mao’s ambitious policies and the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping.

Also, I will offer after-school tutoring on Wednesday, from 2:15 - 3:15.

 

Economics:

This is a big week for you:

  1. We will have the first round of Interviews for your Career Project.  Be sure to dress sharp ALL DAY!
  2. Your Stock Project is due on Thursday.  Finish writing your report! 
  3. Read Chapter 13: Money and Financial Institutions

After this week, the only at-home project you have to work on is the Current Events Project, due on May 15.

 

Week of April 20th

 

Welcome back!  I hope that you had a relaxing break!

Here’s the plan for the week:

World History:

On Monday, we will go over our Cold War Unit Tests and do a final review for the CST-World History. 

Tuesday/Wednesday:  NCLB Science Test

Thursday/Friday:  CST World History Test

*  I will offer after-school tutoring on Wednesday from 2:15-3:15

 

Economics:

This week, we will be studying Chapter 11:  How Businesses Compete.

Paperwork for you Career Project is due on Tuesday.

Friday is the last day of competition for your Stock Project.  Your report will be due on April 30.

Week of March 30th

 

We will begin a block schedule this week.

World History:

We will finish up our study of the Cold War this week.  We wil also have a unit test this Thursday/Friday.

Economics:

This week, we will be studying Chapter 12:  Government and the US Economy.  Other important things this week:

  1. Typed Drafts of your Resume, References is TUESDAY.
  2. I will be assigning you a Tax Project:  please find and print out a copy of the Federal 1040EZ and California Form 540A.  We will go through the tax returns on Thursday.

Week of March 23

 

World History:

We will continue our study of the Cold War this week.  Important things to remember:

  1. Cold War Homework packets due on Tuesday.
  2. Children of the Holocaust re-writes due by Wednesday.  You are to hand in the graded paper and cover sheet, as well as your revisions.  You may improve by one letter grade if you fix things that need fixing.  No re-writes will be accepted after Wednesday.
  3. Tutoring is available on Wednesday.
  4. We will have a quiz on Friday, covering materials on the Cold War.

 

Economics:

We will be studying Chapter 10:  The US Labor Force.

Continue work on the Current Events and Stock Projects. 

Also, you will be assigned the Career Project.

Week of March 16th

 

World History:

This week, we will begin our study of the Cold War.  Sophomores will be taking their CAHSEE exams on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Be sure to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring some pencils!

Economics:

This week, we will be studying Chapter 9:  Production & Productivity.

Week of March 9th

 

World History:

This week, we will be finishing up our study of the Holocaust.  Key days to keep in mind:

Tuesday:  Draft #2 of projects due.  Students who handed in Study Guide Research Grid, Outline, and Drafts on time (or upon return from absence) will get passes to see speaker.

Wednesday:  Holocaust Speaker, period 7, in Theater

Friday:  Final Drafts of Project Due!

Due to the Holocaust speaker presenting on Wednesday, period 7, I will be unable to offer after-school tutoring.  Instead, I will be offering 7th period and after-school tutoring on Tuesday this week.

 

Economics:

This week, we will be studying Chapter 15:  International Trade.
