Unit Objectives:

• Understand that Cold War originated at the end of WWII, when US and USSR became new world superpowers.
  • Examine role atomic weaponry played in the Cold War, and will understand meaning of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) and Nuclear Winter.
  • Map Cold War Alliance Systems: NATO, Warsaw Pact, SEATO
• Differentiate differences of First, Second, Third, and Fourth-World Nations, and be able to identify examples of each.
• Examine Cold War Policies in Latin America
• Discuss experiences of decolonization in Africa and impact of the Cold War
