SCHOLASTIC/CONDUCT GRADE
In order to pass and receive credit for this class, you must earn a “D or higher”(60%) average on all the course work involved in this class.
1. Grades: Points will be allotted to all tests and homework so that you may track your own grade on a continual basis. Grades will also be posted online periodically. Only exams missed due to an excused absence can be made up.
2. Homework/Assignments: In class and home assignments will be given daily, except weekends and vacations. It is your responsibility to copy down the assignment and turn it in on time. Folded or spiral paper will not be accepted. If you are absent the day homework is collected, it is your responsibility to turn it in before class has started on your first day back.
3. Attendance: The West Hills attendance policy will serve as a template, but the following additions will be also be instituted: Any student with greater than 10 absences (who does not fail per the district attendance policy) will have their grade lowered by 10%. Any student who is absent 15 or more times will automatically fail the course as the result of missing required academic discussion and activities. Any period truancy mandates a “U” in conduct and each PTR will result in a 10-point deduction from your grade since you are missing academic conversation and activity. The school’s tardy policy will be enforced and you will also receive a “U” for two or more tardies. Lastly, every tardy will result in a 10-point reduction in your grade, again due to missing academically pertinent discussions and activities.
Any absent student must view what they have missed on my website.
4. Final Exam: The exam is worth approximately 15% of your grade.
Cell Phones: If phones are out during class, I will confiscate it turn it in to the assistant principal’s office at the end of my school day. Also, since you like to hide your phones behind your backpacks, no backpacks will be permitted on your desk.
Working Equipment: Each day you must bring to class: your study guide (econ. only) and writing equipment. Don’t ask me for pens, pencils, paper, etc.
Cheating: 1st offense = referral and “0”. 2nd offense = dropped from class. All homework is to be done INDIVIDUALLY. “Working together” to come up with mutual answers is academic dishonesty and I will catch you.
“Two-way streets in Vanderland”: The first lesson we will learn together is one of treating everyone with kindness and respect. If this can be achieved, I guarantee that I will provide you with a memorable, lasting, and worthwhile high school experience.
